Hello, I'm Winston

I'm a Toronto-based optimist with a fondness for nuance, creativity, and growth. Professionally, my focus lies in the realm of the design, iteration, and maintenance of everyday websites from a front-end perspective. Intertwined with my professional life are my lifelong passion for video games and my fondness for the art of photojournalism and design.

What Now? Podcast: A wonderful, albeit periodically chaotic, conversation with Trevor, Cleo, and Eugene about the upside to being curious and optimistic in learning about the world and thinking about where we're headed. YouTube Link.

Toronto's long-in-the-tooth Eglinton Light Rail Transit (LRT) line finally opened to the public earlier this month, many days late, and several dollars over. CBC News Toronto with a comprehensive history via YouTube as to why that might've been the case (re: Infrastructure and multiple administrations are a terrible mix).

A cheeky bit of writing from Annie Mueller on what technical communication sounds like to non-technical folks. Satire aside, it's something I tend to reflect and place heavy emphasis on in the working world; I wish more developers, designers, and PMs followed suit.

"You have to know what good looks like." - Joe Beda responding to Kelsey Hightower on Bluesky. As with Kelsey's response, Joe nails it. GenAI tools are not of the set-it-and-forget-it nature; editing from experience is always something that'll be required in creative spaces.

While I've never read The Human Scale, I do think journalist Lawrence Wright makes a good point about how fiction can sometimes surface truths more easily than journalism (YouTube Link); something I've thought about a bunch as I've been watching a bunch of shows (Law and Order, The Pitt, and The Wire) that all draw heavily upon real, authentic accounts.
